About the game

Decode the words of great writers. Quillvane is a calm cryptogram game: every puzzle is a real quotation, from Jane Austen and Mark Twain to Marcus Aurelius and Charles Darwin, hidden behind a letter-substitution code. Crack the code, reveal the quote.

Tap a box and type the letter you think it hides, and every box with the same code fills in at once. There is no clock unless you switch one on, no ad ever appears while you are solving, and your progress is saved after every keystroke.

    Type a guess once and every box with the same code fills in, so each good guess opens up the whole quote.

    More than 400 public-domain quotations by over 100 authors, each checked word for word against the original text. Once you decode a quote, it never comes back as a puzzle.

    The timer is off by default and time is never a penalty. No lives and no punishments: take a minute or an evening.

  • Daily quote and collections

    A daily quote with streaks, Easy, Medium and Hard puzzles, eight theme collections and author collections such as Shakespeare, Twain, Emerson and Seneca.
